Musically, Fauxmusica can be a tough listen at times. Noisy and often formless, it is a true representation of the artist. We all know that doesn’t always fill stadiums, though. Still, when the free jazz spirit of Yorba Zergot’s mania works it can actually be pretty breathtaking. His new project and mixtape, entitled ⁂✴⁂ (Sacred Star) is the culmination of all of his efforts, and it has finally paid off. Ep1c in stature it flows like a Mothers of Invention album, dipping its gangrenous toes in all sorts of mucky music. Part of what makes it work is that this time Zergot enlisted some of his fellow warriors to reinterpret some of his better tracks. This gives the album a startling depth and flow that pretty much blew this listener away on first listen.
The fact remains, Yorba is either a full blown psychopath or a master conjurer of chaos. It is often hard to discern his true intentions, but something tells me that there’s a genuine heart lying inside his esoteric scarecrow schtick.
